What to do if You Can’t Figure Out Your Kibbe Body Type

Figuring out your Kibbe body type can be difficult. With 15 questions total, and 5 possible answers to each question, it can be challenging to figure out exactly which answer is the correct one for each of your features.

If you’re having difficulty determining your body type then keep reading, because I’m going to be listing some tips and suggestions that might help you out.

If you don’t know what the Kibbe body types are, and you came to this post to learn more, I suggest you head over to my Overview of the Kibbe Body Types post, which will give you a rundown on the 13 different body types. From there you can take the test to figure out your body type, and then take a look at the signature looks for the body types.

So, now that you’re continuing to read this, it’s time to get into the things that you can try to help you determine your Kibbe body type.

1. Take the test with another person

It can be difficult to be objective when looking at our own bodies, and doing the Kibbe body types test requires objectivity.

If you’re feeling unsure of some of the answers you gave, then try taking the test with someone else, who can be more objective when telling you which answers your features fall under.

2. Take a photograph of yourself

When doing the test, you need to be able to see your body in its entirety. If you used a mirror to do this, but you’re unsure of the answers you gave on the test, then try using a photograph instead.

To get the best angle, place the camera at around chest level, and make sure that it is perpendicular to the floor. Back up a few steps, so that your entire body is in the frame, then take the picture.

If you don’t have a tripod and self timer for your camera, have someone else help you take the picture.

Now that you have the picture, try taking the test again. You might find that you can see your features more clearly and with more objectivity.

3. Put aside any stereotypes or assumptions you have in your head

Sometimes we develop assumptions about the body types, or focus on stereotypes that they have.

For example, a stereotype of dramatics is that they’re really tall. But let’s say you’re a short dramatic, like Lucy Liu (she’s 5’2”). If you cling on to the concept that all dramatics are tall, then you may take a look at yourself and declare yourself a flamboyant gamine, since you’re short.

Then you go and try on a flamboyant gamine outfit, it makes you look severe, and you wonder what happened. Now you’re confused as to why it doesn’t suit you, and you’re unsure of what your body type is.

If all of your other features are dramatic ones, then having one outlying feature isn’t enough to change that.

4. Read the general descriptions for each body type

Sometimes we get so caught up in the details, that we forget about what matters most: the big picture.

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter whether your nose is an A or B answer, if you know that your overall vibe is that of a Theatrical Romantic. And that’s what matters most, the overall vibe, feeling, or aesthetic that our bodies give off.

The Kibbe body typing system isn’t about making sure that every little detail of what we wear is tailored to the individual feature its on. It’s about having the overall lines and looks of our clothing, accessories, hair, and makeup match with the overall lines and looks of our bodies.

So if you’re getting too caught up in each individual answer to the test, try taking a step back and reading the general descriptions of each body type.

Going back to the Theatrical Romantic example, the description for Theatrical Romantics is something along the lines of this:

Theatrical romantics have a delicate, and feminine bone structure, with their bones tending to be on the short and narrow side. Their flesh is soft, round, and very womanly, and they tend to have hourglass figures. They have soft flesh on their face as well, however their facial bones can be a bit sharp.

My mother is a Theatrical Romantic. She’s tall, but she doesn’t look tall, and her facial bones (specifically her nose and cheekbones) are on the sharp side. She still fits the description of a theatrical romantic though, since her overall look is short and feminine, with some slight sharpness and narrowness in the bones.

5. Narrow it down to one of the 5 families

In the Kibbe body type system, there are 5 families or groups for the body types, which are then divided into more specific sub-types, leaving us with 13 body types total. If you can’t figure out which of the 13 body types you have, then try to figure out which of the 5 families you belong to.

If you can narrow it down to one of the five families, then you’ll have a much better idea of what will look good on you, even if you can’t narrow down the specifics.

One way to narrow down which family you’re in is to try on a dress that matches the description for each family of body types. Do your best to make sure that the dresses are all in the same or similar colors, to make sure that your coloration isn’t throwing you off.

Here’s an example of a dress for each family of body types:

Dresses for the Kibbe Body Types

6. Consider Gamine or Classic

There are two body types that often get incorrectly typed as being something else: gamines and classics.

I’ll start with gamines. Gamines are often incorrectly typed because they’re a mixture of opposites. Because of this, it’s impossible to give an example of a gamine and then say ‘this is what all gamines look like’.

What makes a gamine is her mixture of opposites throughout her body, and so it can be difficult to type her.

As an example, Taylor Swift is a gamine, but she often gets typed as a dramatic, since her bones are long and narrow, her eyes are narrow, and she’s pretty tall. However, she also has a soft nose, jawline, cheekbones, shoulders, and flesh.

She’s a mixture of opposites, so she’s a gamine.

Next are classics.

Classics are often incorrectly typed because they’re so moderate, between yin and yang, feminine and masculine. Often when classics are being typed, the slight discrepancies in their features lead people to give them the wrong type.

As an example, because a classics features are so moderate, as soon as something is slightly softer or sharper (but still within the range of being a C answer), it gets misconstrued as belonging to a different type.

That then becomes a cascade, and then so many features that are classic answers are viewed through the lens of them being features of a different body type.

If you’re having trouble figuring out your body type, try testing out some classic outfits and some gamine outfits, and see if either of them suits you well.

7. Wear what you feel you look best in

If by this point you still don’t know which body type you have, just try wearing what you feel you look best in.

You see, people tend to gravitate towards the clothes for their body type, even if they don’t consciously realize it.

If you already have a look that you gravitate towards, then that could be an indication that you subconsciously know what looks good on you.

If that’s the case, then you can try reverse engineering your Kibbe body type. Instead of looking at your body and learning which clothes look good on you, try looking at your clothes and learning which body type they correspond to.

This was how I confirmed my body type when I first learned about the Kibbe body types. At the time I was a soft gamine, and though I already knew that soft gamine clothes looked the best on me, I didn’t understand why.

If you’re still unsure of your Kibbe body type, let me know, and I might be able to help you figure it out.

  1. Is there any overlap between a soft dramatic and the gamine category? I’ve classified as a soft dramatic, but I love the gamine style and look and I feel closer to a gamine than a dramatic. Is there a way I could incorporate gamine style into a soft dramatic look? Am I, truly, a soft dramatic?

My answers to the quiz, by the way, were:

    Bones: 1B 2A 3D 4D
    Flesh: 5A 6A 7C 8C 9A
    Face: 10A 11B 12A 13E 14C 15D

I tend to be on the tall side and very slender, with a waist but no bust or hip definition, and delicately boned. My face is heart-shaped with high cheekbones, heavy brows, large wide-set eyes, small full lips, a rounded fleshy nose, and a cleft to the chin.

Incidentally, I love your blog. It’s very helpful.

I actually think you’re a flamboyant gamine, not a soft dramatic. You have a lot of yang answers, with some yin, but instead of your yang being concentrated in your bone structure with your yin in your flesh like a soft dramatic, you have more of a mix and match like a flamboyant gamine. I hope this helps!

      1. Hello. I’m having such a hard time figuring out my type. I just did your updated test and my answers are
        Bone structure: 1A, 1B, 2C, 1D, 2E
        Face structure: 1D, 2E
        Body flesh: 1D, 2E
        Facial features: 1D, 2E
        Total: 1A, 2B, 2C, 4D, 8E

I guess this would put me on the yin dominated side. Maybe romantic or soft romantic or maybe even soft gamine, but I’m moderately tall around 5’7” so people on forums insist that I have to be on the soft version of yang types like soft natural. Is height so important? Most clothes recommended for the soft naturals look awful on me and I look good only in clothes where my waist is completely defined, when the fabrics are thin and when clothes have fluff or shapes following my lines not anything straight or oversized. Also I look off in deep colours like dark brown and khaki. So what type am I?

      2. Thanks for commenting, Mary! Based on your results and description of yourself, you’re a theatrical romantic. I know that there’s division in the Kibbe body types community about how much height plays a role in body typing, but I’m on the side of that it doesn’t determine your body type. After all, I believe Rihanna is a Kibbe-verified theatrical romantic, and she’s about 5’7″ too.

  3. Hi! I am debating between flamboyant natural and dramatic classic. I am 6ft tall, but can appear shorter (longer torso, shorter legs). I measure an hourglass (shoulder 41-bust 37-waist 29-hips 41), but I appear more of a straight line. I have a pretty broad blunt skeleton, but more classic face and flesh.
    Test results:
    Bones 1C 2B 3C 4B, Flesh 1C 2B 3C 4B 5C(maybe E), Facial: 1C 2C 3C 4B 5C 6B

Do you have any ideas for interpreting?

  4. Hello there! I’m loving your content! It’s very informative, but also simple to understand. Thank you for it.

However, I’m having a bit of trouble defining myself, specially since my body changed a bit recently.
I got typed as a soft classic at first, but I feel like my bone structure is a little too sharp and my body is a little too fleshy. Yet, I’m not small looking or shapely enough to be a theatrical romantic. I’m just confused lol Could you give me a hand, if it’s ok?

    These are my quiz answers:

    Bones: 1b, 2c, 3c, 4d

    Flesh: 5d, 6c, 7d, 8c, 9d

    Face: 10d, 11c, 12d, 13c, 14c, 15d

To be honest, most of my d answers ar actually somewhere between a c and a d.

Well, thank you so much in advance! I’ll be keeping up with your new content!

      Facial Features:

I’ve done the kibbe test before, and at the time I was a soft classic and felt kind of disappointed because I find it a little bit boring when it comes to clothing options. I guess I did it again this time hoping to get a different answer (lol). However, I’d like to know your opinion about it just to be sure!

      1. Thanks for commenting, Emily! Based on your results, I’m leaning towards you being classic instead of soft classic, since your B answers almost completely balance your D and E answers.

I know classics can have a bit of a reputation of looking boring (I’m a soft classic, so I can relate to how you feel), but I find that we can actually look pretty fun, with little effort! Because we have such balanced bodies, simple prints and patterns (such as leopard print, dots, stripes, etc.) can give us a very fun and playful vibe. I’d highly suggest checking out this video by Merriam Style, called ‘Are Classics Boring and Gamines Fun?’: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUfqZQhrRLw to get an idea of how you can look more fun and interesting as a classic.

Firstly I’d like to say that your blog helped me a lot with the confusion I had with the Kibbe body types. So thanks for that :). I took the test for who knows how many times, and it changed a bit every time. Now, I actually understand what the answers look like. I think I finally know my kibbe body type: SN

    Bone structure: all B answers.
    Flesh: 5D 6B 7E 8B 9E
    Face: 10E 11B 12B 13B 14D 15E

I have one question for you. I don’t think I understand the SN clothing very well. Because I find that what I think is SN clothing makes me look wider. I am guessing that SN is more yin than what I think it is. Do you have any recomendations, like any blogs I can read or any clothing recomendatins?

Thank you so much, and have a good day. Keep up the amazing work please!

Your results do line up with the soft natural body type, so I’ll do my best to help you understand the clothing recommendations!

A couple of the very yin things in the clothing suggestions for soft naturals are waist emphasis and soft fabrics that create a lot of draping. Without those two elements, it’s really easy to begin looking shapeless.

That being said, clothing doesn’t have to be super oversized to be soft natural clothes too.

I have a soft natural Pinterest board that you might find helpful: https://www.pinterest.ca/cozyrebekah/soft-natural-kibbe-body-types-inspiration/

But I’m really confused by my type, because I got the theatrical romantic body type but I don’t think my overall impact suits the delicate description of that type. I tend to see more of a soft natural in me due to how broad my bones are.

    My results were

    Flesh 5D 6C 7D 8B 9E
    Face 10C 11C 12A 13D 14D 15D

    1. Thanks for commenting, Lakme! I agree with your assessment that you’re actually a soft natural, not a theatrical romantic, since most of your B answers are in your bone structure, and most of your D answers are in your flesh and facial features, which is a result pattern common in soft naturals. You may just be slightly softer than a typical soft natural, but I would still consider you to be one based on those results.

  10. Hello, Rebekah!

Your test was really helpful, especially with the pictures referring to each type. Alas, even so, I have trouble finding by body type, as I struggle between classifying myself as pure classic, dramatic classic, or even soft dramatic.

My height is 5’7”, and I did a body shape test according to my measurements and the result was hour glass/spoon (pear), which adds even more to my confusion (said measurements are: bust – 36; waist – 28; hips – 40) because my shoulders seem quite wide as well (13 inches), in comparison to my body, and my head looks pretty small. I have a balanced body type all in all, with slightly longer arms and legs, by not too much (leg length 34 and torso length with head 33), knuckles go a little below my buttocks (which also throws me off). My face is pretty classic though. My hands and feet are smallish, but I don’t think they seem small in comparison to my body. The flesh on my body is another issue I have. When I touch it’s soft, but it doesn’t look that soft when I look at myself in the mirror or in pictures.

    Here are my test results:
    Bone: 1B 2B 3C 4C
    Flesh: 5C 6C 7C 8D 9D
    Face: 10C 11C 12C 13C 14C 15D

The results laid out like this make it seem to myself like I’m a pure classic, but they are mostly my face shape, and other aspects of my body confuse me even more, along with the fact that my perception of myself doesn’t seem to make the results more objective. Makes me second guess all my answers.

Please help me out, for I am a giant ball of confusion and in need of some outsider perspective!

  11. I’m having so much trouble finding out what type I am.
    Overall : 1,64m and 67kilos (96cm bust – maybe 100 now, 73 waist and 98 hips)
People assume I’m 1,72 when I’m 1,62 and in photos when my body isn’t showing it looks like I’m tall bc I have a very big head (for my taste at least). BUT I’m so so wide in both shoulders and hips (and even waist, very wide waist but hourglass body) that my head actually seems small in real life. (All this for just 1 question 😂)
Now shoulders ; even tho I’m not very very overweight – bmi just below 25 – my collarbones are non existent. They are maybe very high up and not prominent at all,I don’t have enough fat there for it to make sense otherwise. I see photos as a child and I had very very prominent collarbones (tho quite high) but they start disappearing slowly throughout the years lmao.
My hands are smallish and wideish and my arms are just above the middle of my thigh. My feet are big (for my height) and wide tho, show size 38-39 depending.
Now for face, I really don’t know. People say I look like Scarlett Johansson, I have similar lips (maybe mine are a tiny little bit wider) and exact same nose, even with the little bump. Before a basketball accident my nose was more “asianish” at the bridge from the profile, idk if that changes the results. Kind of an Alyssa Milano nose but not that pointy, slightly more rounded like Scarletts, back then b4 the accident.
Cheekbones? I have no idea. They used say I have very big and prominent cheeks but now that I’ve gained weight idk. I mean, they are there, and in photos it looked as if I have no jaw, from cheeks to chin in one line, but I’m real life they don’t look really prominent and my jawline, although not prominent, is obvious and gives me a more rounder face (rather than complete triangle like in photos). Eyes are big and moderate shaped, although slightly hooded. The fat of my cheecks maybe shows my cheeckbones less.
Now overall style, idk. People say I’m a teen, I look like a child in the face and an overweight pornstar in the body. When I show photos of my body they expect a really sexy face and they see a twelve year old (I’m 20). I look VERY awkward in very romantic and sexy outfits, like a kid trying moms clothes.
Tapered, stiff with no waist emphasis clothes look horrendous in me. Very very rounded clothes with volume make me look like a little boy in Halloween pumpkin costume. Clothes that show boobs, maybe hide my fatarms and soulders, but show chest area above boobs, with a lot of waist emphasis and a light fabric but not too airy look the best for me, especially if they are till the middle of the thigh, not longer not shorter. My knees look rounded but with a kind of prominent “bone” right in the middle (LOL). also bc I’m fat, when I’m kneeing my fat creates a second side knee from the side that looks at the other leg 😂 maybe I’m exaggerating a little bit but I want to describe it bc idk if my “flesh” (FAT) is D or E.
TLDR, I know, but I want to know my type.
Also, last thing, when I say waist I mean the thinnest part above my bellybutton, and when I say hip I don’t mean the hipbone (the ileum) but the fatass on the upper part of my thigh. It’s like I have a double hip. My hipbone is wide, but because I’m fat my waist isn’t THAT smaller that the perimeter of my hipbones. A LOT of my fat is stored in the upper side thigh “hip” area, just below the ileum (also upper arms and belly).

Thank you for the test tho ❤️ I hope you aren’t too bored to read it 😂

    1. Thanks for leaving me a comment! Don’t worry, I wasn’t too bored to read it. 😉 It was a bit difficult to figure out your type, but I think you’re either a romantic or a soft natural, with some ingenue essence. Ingenue essence is the proportions that make the face look childlike, if you’re interested in learning more about it, Merriam Style has an great video covering the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ku6fwdHXN5E

In any case, I suggest you take a look at both my romantic and soft natural boards and see if you enjoy either of the lines:

      1. Thank you so much for replying! I had never consider sn because of my height, tho facewise it’s possible. I looked into your recommendations (loved them) and saw that casual everyday cutish romantic clothes look best on me, but for formal dressing some sn were the best for me. I am still in the middle but I’ve narrowed down, thank you a lot. Looking forward to seeing your next posts

  12. I’ve been struggling with my type. I have it narrowed down to 2 possibilities, SG and TR. I ruled SC out because I look too petite and delicate compared to SC women. I also look boring in the clothes and jewelry.

    My test results
    Bone Structure
    D, D, E, D
    Flesh
    D, D, D, D, D
    Face
    D, E, D, D, D, D

I answered to the best of my ability using photos, but it can be hard to see yourself. I have a large forehead, oval face with sharp chin, soft jaw. I am 5′. People guess I weigh less than I really do. The main impression of my body is it’s narrowness and delicate bone structure. I have very narrow shoulders, small and narrow hands and feet. Short limbs. My measurements are 32-24-35.5. My under bust measurement is 26″. While I’m narrow I do have curves. I have a long torso, but still have waist definition as you can see from my measurements which always confused me a bit about the test (I get the impression is that you need a short torso to have waist definition, so I never know how to answer that question. Yes it’s long but it’s also defined). I feel that I look my best when dressed up in chandelier earrings, shimmery makeup and glamorous hair (I am a verified bright winter so in terms of makeup, it may just be my season that works with the bright/bold lips, gloss and shimmer). Matte makeup is awful, I need a dewy finish and gloss. Today’s trends of natural clothing really does me a disservice, I look matronly and disheveled. I get told I look best in dresses. With wash and wear or messy hair I look undone. Retro style wet sets look great. I had a pixie cut and grew it out to long again, so was able to see how I look at all stages of hair. Very short pixie was better than grown out longer pixie. The longer pixie to shoulder length hair stage was the worst. I feel long hair is best on me. Large and round, slightly upturned, slightly close set eyes. Rosebud mouth. Nose has a very narrow bridge but a rounded tip. My facial features look delicate but big at the same time. Big eyes, full lips, nose isn’t that small. Doll-like features I guess you could say. Natural hair texture is thick and wavy. I wear glasses and feel that the larger rounder frames that look so amazing on SG look big and out of place on my face, but that may be because even small frames are often too wide on my face. I have a pair of small cat eye glasses on the way to see if it’s any better. My gut tells me I’m a TR but here is why I hesitate to call that my type.

Mainly it’s the feedback from others. I get complimented in both SG and TR clothes. Personally, I feel that SG clothes can be too stiff and heavy on me. I feel more at home in sheer and drapey fabrics, plush fabrics too as long as they’re still drapey. I get told I look like a teenager…a lot. Everyone thinks I’m way younger than I am. I believe I have ingenue essence. So I’m betting I’m either a TR with ingenue or SG. I also get told I look like Natalie Portman and Winona Ryder, both SG. When I ask why they typically describe the skin, hair and eye color, so it’s possibly based on phenotype not body lines. Something else casting doubt is that I posted photos on a forum and the feedback was all over the place. No one thought I was TR. I got things like DC?? Half the people said gamine and half said they saw no gamine at all.
I’m confident I’m either SG or TR (but ofc open to being something else entirely, I just can’t see what could be a better fit).

I feel that I don’t have the width and the larger/more angular bone structure that SG has. I also lack those full and gorgeous SG cheeks with the slightly wider jaw. My whole face is narrow and I have zero jaw. I can’t reconcile being a TR with being told on a constant basis how I look like a teenager or in my early 20s (I’m in my early 30s). I hope you can help me, I feel like I’m so close to nailing it but not quite there yet. Can I be a TR and look as youthful as I do (I don’t see teenager, I see early-mid 20s but that’s just me)? Am I really a gamine after all?

Based on your results and your descriptions of yourself, I truly believe that you’re a theatrical romantic, just with some ingenue essence. The reason why you may get lots of compliments while wearing SG and TR lines is that theatrical romantics don’t look too separate from SG lines, instead it makes them look more commanding. I recommend watching this video by Merriam Style to see what I mean: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1–IJlbYS8

    Results are:

    5a 6a 7c 8c 9a
    10d 11b 12d 13c 14d 15c

I’m 5’8 and super skinny and boney, I have long legs and neck yet I look shorter than I am and aside from height I just seem small. I have very long feet though. My face is quite soft but slim. I have a biggish round nose with structured full lips. My eyes are puffy/hooded almonds, faint eyebrows. Subtle cheek bones and pointed chin.

    Take a look.

    Bone structure: C, B, C, C
    Flesh: 4 C, B
    Face: C, A, 4 D

I think I am a dramatic classic, but my face doesn’t match.
    What do you think?
Also, I love wearing soft natural clothes and sometimes romantic

    1. Thanks for commenting, Melissa! I took a look at your results, and I think you lean more towards being soft classic than dramatic classic. Though you have a few yang answers, the yin ones almost completely balance them out, leaving you with a majority of moderate answers + a bit of yin left over. This is also probably why you like wearing soft natural and romantic clothes, since soft classics can wear other yin body types’ lines and still look really good (I’m a fellow SC so I do this a lot too :D)

  16. Found this blog the other day and it’s amazing!

My results are leaning towards TR or SG which is a bit confusing.

    Bones
    A=1, D/E=3
    Flesh
    A=2, D/E=3
    Features
    A=1, D/E=3
    Face
    A=1, D=2

I’m pretty sure my face is a gamine face and there is a definite mix of features (small hands/feet, sharp shoulders, round eyes with sharp nose, etc.) I wear TR pretty well though, but others would say I have more of a “spunky” energy about me that doesn’t suit the aesthetics of TR.

Does body language and “vibe” help determine type? If it does I would be pretty sure I’m a gamine.

    Like

    1. Thanks for commenting with your results! I think you’re a soft gamine, since you have too much distribution of your A answers to be a theatrical romantic. Members of the gamine family definitely tend to have a spunky and energetic vibe to them, since their features are kind of a mix and match, which creates a very contrasted and high energy look.

  17. Hi! I like your blog, and I was meaning to ask for help but the comment on Taylor Swift as a gamine has been bugging me a little bit because she is a verified dramatic by Kibbe himself, and I’m having trouble picturing her as a gamine even though she looks nice in gamine clothes. So apart from this, what makes you think that Taylor is a gamine ?

    Like

    1. Thanks for commenting Pam. I first had difficulty seeing it too, but this video by Merriam Style really shows how Taylor Swift is a gamine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UZlXUfbOyXs

Sure, Taylor has some fairly long and angular bones and vertical line, but her facial features are actually quite soft compared to other dramatics such as Keira Knightley, Tilda Swinton, and Cate Blanchett. Dramatic lines also don’t suit her as well as gamine lines.

For example, in this picture Taylor is wearing a combination of soft gamine (the dress) and gamine (the makeup) lines, and they suit her quite well: https://www.billboard.com/files/styles/article_main_image/public/media/taylor-swift-2014-vs-show-billboard-1548.jpg Maybe she looks a bit sharper than usual because of the softness of the material.

But in this picture where Taylor is wearing dramatic lines (oversized and very structured) she looks quite separate from them and her face looks quite rounded, which is uncharacteristic for a dramatic, but an effect that gamines can experiencing when wearing quite structured or oversized pieces: https://i.redd.it/1e7s3gbmght21.jpg

  18. But isn’t the point of the gamine to not look womanly? Taylor does look like WAY more like a woman and less like a teenager, and although she looks amazing with gamine clothes, I don’t see her as a gamine at all. I do agree that she looks softer in her facial features, which makes me wonder that she may be a dramatic classic like Nina Dobrev for instance.
And I must say that this is making me even more confused about what body type I should see myself as.

    1. While most gamines do look pretty young, not all of them do. The defining characteristics for gamines are a mix and match of features, which usually leads to youthful traits such as large eyes, small lips and jaw, long arms and legs, but a short height. However in some cases you get gamines who still have a mix and match of features, but not in a way that looks especially youthful.

Another example of this is Halle Berry. She’s a soft gamine, but in my opinion she looks more womanly than teenager-ish, however she still has a mix and match of features with an overall soft balance.

  19. I just have a little question, can a natural type be really small ? Because i look more like a nauturalor flamboyant natural but i’m only 1m53/5’1…

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Yep, for sure! Height is only one factor in the overall body type, so sometimes height doesn’t match exactly with the common description for each body type. For example, Lucy Liu is a dramatic and 5’2″ , Taylor Swift is a gamine and 5’10”, and Rihanna is a theatrical romantic and 5’8″, so height doesn’t play a determining role in body type, it’s just one of several answers to consider.

  20. This is one of the best Kibbe tests I’ve ever seen — the illustrations are incredibly helpful! I’ve always found my shoulders difficult to place, even with photographs, but the simple lines made it really easy to see that my shoulders are blunt.

I know you’ve had a lot of posts asking for help interpreting the answers, I hope you don’t mind one more. ❤ I've been typed by friends/forums as SN, C, or SC, but I think my answers here are tending towards R/TR. Maybe.

    Body
    Vertical Line — I'm 5'4, people generally assume I'm 5'3 to 5'5, so C.
Shape of shoulders — Definitely B (I'm overweight, so I have some slope going on, but the bone structure is still clear)
Limb length — my fingertips land about mid-thigh. I've always thought of myself as long-limbed for my height, but my closest friends are of a similar height with short limbs, so I think it's just a matter of "My arms are longer, therefore I have Long Arms") so C
Hands and feet — My hands seem average-sized to me compared to my body, although maybe slightly square, so C? At 9.5 triple-width, I think my feet are definitely large, though, so maybe B.

    Flesh:
Overall shape of body — I've been overweight since I was a young teen, so it's difficult to say for sure, but I know I have a well-defined waist (even with 110 lb extra weight), and the first thing to happen when I lose more than 5lb or so is that my waist caves in even further. So I figure either D or E.
Bust — This was really hard for me! I have what my mom always called a "sprung" ribcage. My husband considers me busty, but as the smallest-breasted woman in my family at 38C/40D, my framework for what counts as busty is probably skewed. Judging by my close female relatives, the breasts will probably stay if the weight goes, so I think either E or D.
Waistline: D. Definitely proportionally smaller than my bust and hips.
Hipline: I think D. Again, my view is skewed re: curves (my best friend has M E G A H I P S, so I tend to think of mine as small/average), but D looks most similar in line, I think.
Upper limb flesh: Again, I've been fat all my life, so "soft and squish" is standard. I put on muscle well if I exercise or do physical labor, and it tends to be wiry muscle, but as it stands my upper arms are very squishy and my thighs are somewhat squishy.

    Face
Jawline: This one is SO hard. Feeling my bones, I think E or D.
    Nose: Definitely E.
Cheekbones: Hard to tell under my padding, but definitely A — all the women in my family have high cheekbones and I can feel them under my cheeks.
Eyes: Hard again. Growing up I was told I had "almond" eyes like my father as opposed to my mother's round eyes, but for pictures, I think E looks the closest. I'm torn between E and D.
Lips: I think either C or D — I certainly don't have Beyonce-level plush lips, but they're not thin and they are well defined (with a definite cupid's bow).
Check flesh: Either D or C — physically pushing on my cheeks makes me thing a soft and swishy D, but the picture that looks most similar is C.

Thank you for any thoughts you might have! ❤ I'm going to go check out the rest of your blog now… love your take on Kibbe and fashion!

  21. Hello there! I have two questions : First, would this Kibbe body typing work for a transgender person? For example a male to female transgender, if she’s a gamine when she presents as a man, would she look good in a gamine type dress or not? Since “male” and “female” bone structure are different, would her type change when she transitioned? Assuming this male to female transgender have a “male” bone and facial structure and transitioned after puberty

Second, can a romantic type woman have a moderate waist? Because I feel like I’m a romantic bodied woman but I don’t have any really defined waist, bust, or hips

    Thank you!

    Like

    1. I’m going to be completely honest with you, I do think that Kibbe body typing can work for a transgender person, but I’m still working out some of the ways that answers differ from male and female bodies. From what I’ve researched so far, really only 3 answers change a lot, which are the bust, waist, and hips compared to the rest of the body, but the rest of the lines seem to be the same with both male and female bodies.

I do think that as long as the overall balance of the lines is the same or very similar, a transgender woman can wear the same lines as when she was presenting as a man, since most of her lines will be similar, assuming she hasn’t done anything to drastically change them. I’m not very familiar with the process that goes on with switching, but if surgery is done or something is consumed to change the lines of the bone structure, then that could change things.

Unfortunately this is a really unexplored area of body typing, but it’s something that I’ve given some thought to and that I want to research.

As for a romantic with a moderate waistline, I think it’s definitely possible! If pretty much all your answers are E ones but you just have a couple of outliers, then you’re still a romantic in my book.

I hope this helps, and don’t hesitate to ask me anything if you have more questions!

    1 A
    2 A
    3 A
    4 A
    5 A
    6 C
    7 A
    8 C
    9 C

    10 A
    11 A
    12 A
    13 C
14 A or C Lips are wide, bottom lip is very fleshy, top lip is less defined on edges
    15 A

Thank you so much. I think based on the quiz I’m a dramatic, but what do all the Cs mean?

    Like

    1. Thanks for commenting, Sam! Based on all your A answers, you’re a dramatic. The Cs don’t really mean much in this case, since C answers don’t affect the yin/yang balance of the body at all, and so they only need to be considered when they make up the majority of answers (as is the case with classics, soft classics, and dramatic classics). You have quite a few C answers, but you still have a majority of A ones, so you’re a dramatic.

  25. Hey! Thank you so much for being so helpful!

I did the test alone once and got Dramatic Classic, but some descriptions of that body type seem a little bit off, since I do have a moderate hourglass shape (my measurements are 85-60-90cm) and that doesn’t seem to be the case when you’re a DC. So I took the test with a friend who’s studying anatomy as an art student and his answers were even more confusing! Is it possible that I am a gamine? I was wondering if you could be so kind and take the time to help me figure this out!

    Here are my answers:
    Bones – B A B C
    Flesh – D B D D C
    Face – B C A C C A

    Flesh – D B D D C

  29. Hi Rebekah! I found your blog just now, as I was trying to find my type in other pages, the tests were so confusing…by the one I did here, I got this:

    Overall bone structure: b,b,b,c
    Flesh on the body: b,d,c,b,b
    Facial Features: b,b,a,c,c,b,a

I know my body is mostly Natural type then, but my face confuses me. =/ What do you think?

Thank you and congratulations on the blog!

    Thanks for the information 🙂
    This is what I got:

    Bone Structure: 1C, 2A, 3C, 4C
    Flesh: 5B, 6B, 7E, 8D, 9B
    Facial Features: 10A, 11C, 12A, 13B, 14D, 15D

I’m not sure if I’m a Dramatic Classic or Flamboyant Gamine (since I’ve got 4Bs, 4Cs, 3As, 3Ds). I know that gamines tend to be short (which I am: 154cm or 5ft and 1 inch). And… I lost 10 kilos/22 pounds over the last 8 months, right now I’m 1 kilogram away from being overweight to “normal”, so I’m a bit confused about the “flesh” part – though I did my best to be as objective as possible.

  31. Hi. I’m having trouble with this whole Kibbe thing. I seem to be clearly TR based on the test, but I really don’t like any of the clothes suggested for TR. I really prefer SN based on photos. I know we can wear anything we want to, but Romantic and Natural are supposed to be quite opposite each other, so it doesn’t make sense. Please help!

    1. Thanks for commenting, Breann! While your test results do indicate that you’re TR, you can still look great in SN lines, since they share certain elements (for example: waist emphasis, soft fabrics). SN is also pretty similar to TR in terms of contrast level and yin/yang balance.

I have a (rough) graph on this post that shows how I feel the body types are balanced on low/high contrast and yin/yang: https://cozyrebekah.com/2019/04/07/an-overview-of-the-kibbe-body-types/

  32. Its early morning where I’m from and I just stumbled upon your blog an hour ago but I already love it and am obsessed.
I took the test although I’m not sure about some of the answer, I am a slightly overweight for my height but this was definitely more helpful with the pictures.
    I’m 5’2″ and around 62 kilos
    My answer were
    Bone Structure: 1c 2c 3c 4e
    Flesh: 5d or c 6c 7c 8d 9d
    Facial Features: 10c 11b or c 12d 13c 14c 15c or d

  34. Hello Rebekah, thank you so, so much for the quiz and the breakdown, illustrations were an ingenious idea and so well executed! I’ve taken the quiz so many times, because I have trouble seeing myself objectively. It’s something like this – Bones: 1C 2B 3C 4D Flesh: 5D 6C 7C 8D 9E Face: 10B 11B 12C 13D 14C 15C. The answers mostly indicate I’m a SC, but I’m not convinced because of my broad shoulders. As far as I understand, prominent shoulder line will preclude someone from being in the classic category. I’m 164 cm (5.4 ft.), 62 kg (136 pounds), shoe size 36.5 (US 6). There’s no elongation in my frame, but not really petite looking either. Quite shapely but mostly thanks to my full hips/thighs, as my bust is more on a moderate side. Answering the question about waistline was hard because my waist is significantly smaller than my hips, but much not much smaller than my bust. If one takes modern iteration of an hourglass figure, then I would be it, as my hips and shoulders are approximately the same width and broader than my waist, but a more classic understanding of hourglass (bust/hips) is not about me at all. Can one be a spoon and an inverted triangle at the same time? I doubt it. :))) I’m very lost! I would consider Soft Dramatic if I had any elongation, but I don’t. I would maybe consider Soft Natural, again because of shoulders, but my hands and feet are quite small and ‘delicate’, and my facial features aren’t full, I have an oblong face and moderate sized eyes and lips, maybe even on a smaller side in relation to my face. Although one should consider that clothes hang on the body and not on the face, hands/feet. :))) I’m thinking out loud here, I’m so sorry for such a long post, I’m sure you get hundreds of these!

    1. Thanks for commenting, Ella! I’m glad the illustrations were helpful. 🙂

I’d say that you are a soft classic, despite your broad shoulders. You’d be surprised at how many people have a few answers that don’t quite fit the descriptions of their body type, myself included. But it’s about the overall balance of the body, so it’s fine to have some outlying features!

    1B, 2C, 3C, 4C,
    5C, 6A, 7C, 8 either A or C (they both look like me in your drawing), 9C,
    10C, 11 either B or D (was unsure of how to interpret), 12C, 13D, 14C, 15 maybe D or C?

I think I’m somewhere in the Classic realm, I’m guessing Dramatic Classic but I don’t know if that’s right since I enjoy the Dramatic look so it’s kind of what I want to be?

    face = 3c 2d 1b

Could you please help me or find some type of understanding. Thank you so much for doing this!!

  39. Hey! Think I’m doing something wrong with this test. Quite easily classified my mum and sister correctly, but cannot get a definitive answer for myself. I seem to be a mix of A,B,D, and E. Am I a classic, but just not identifying correctly? I thought I’d be a gamine as the majority of my bone structure is Yang, and my facial features are Yin. But then I have equal answers of B (broad shoulder and chest, with smaller hips) and D (delicate bone structure in my face, and my flesh not being quite round enough to be E). Clothes wise, I do think I tend to stick to gamine/flamboyant gamine, but I don’t know enough about each types style to say for certain. I’d be grateful for your help because this has been driving me crazy

      1. There’s sort of a division in Kibbe body typing groups, of how much your height effects your body type. I’m of the belief that you can have any body type no matter how tall or short you are. Lucy Liu was typed as a dramatic and she’s 5’3″ if I recall correctly. Rihanna was typed as theatrical romantic and she’s 5’7″.

Since gamines have a mixture of results within their bodies, it’s possible for them to be quite tall and still have that mix-and-match vibe. For example, Taylor Swift is quite tall, but I find she looks her best in gamine and flamboyant gamine lines.

  42. Hi Rebekah! I’ve taken the test multiple times and am still confused about my type. For a lot of questions I was sometimes between 2 different answers and unsure which to pick. I’m 5’7, with really long narrow hands and feet. People always think I’m in high school, but I’m 29 lol. If you could please help me with what you think my Kibbe type and essence are, that would be really helpful!! Here’s some pictures of me: https://imgur.com/a/2KMaiG9

      1. Thanks so much for looking at them Rebekah!! Wow, I never thought I would be gamine or soft gamine. Now I wonder if maybe I incorrectly answered some of the test questions. I thought I was maybe dramatic or dramatic classic as that is what some people on reddit ID’d me as, but I trust your opinion. These were my answers for the Kibbe test, which I’m not too sure are right. Do you think I’d still be soft gamine based on my pictures and test answers? Seriously appreciate what you do, it’s super helpful 🙂

      2. Sometimes it can be difficult to tell what body type a person has, so I really recommend taking a look at both soft gamine lines and dramatic classic lines. The lines are pretty different, so one set of lines will noticeably suit you more than the other set, which could help you narrow down which family of body types you belong to.

  43. Hi Rebekah! First of all, thank you for being so informative. Your posts are super informative and I LOVE them. It also means a lot to me to see a blogger that is so active and heckin’ helpful in their comments. When typing myself though, I’m stuck, as I seem to be on the cusp of soft natural and soft classic based on my look. My quiz answers put me all over the map, even when I got someone else’s help. I look more like a soft classic, but I look and feel more at home in soft natural looks and my hair looks awful if it’s too put together. Any advice would be much appreciated!

    1. Thank you so much, Amy! I say that if you feel more at home in soft natural lines then go for them! But also consider that you might be a soft gamine. For awhile I thought I was a soft classic, but I always had to tweak the soft classic lines to make them look more proportionate on me, so I suggest you take a look at both SN and SG lines.

  44. Hello there Rebekah!
I came across your blog through a Youtube video that has been recently posted. Thank you for all your hard work and passion! I might wanna get a consultation later on but I’m just barely getting started with all of this subject.
After taking the test I’m so confused as my body type seem to line up pretty coherently but then comes my facial structure and I don’t know what to think anymore. What’s the most prominent then?
    My results were:
    1.E (or D), 2.E, 3.C, 4.A
    5.E, 6.E, 7.D (or E), 8. D, 9.C,
10.D, 11.E, 12.C (or D, basically no cheekbones noticeable on my face), 13.C, 14. D (or E but my upper lip isn’t that large, mostly the bottom one), 15.C
(I’m 5’2 and around 105 pounds at the moment, but definitely not toned or muscular as I stopped exercising since working from home and the quarantine, oops! I didn’t take on weight but I noticed losing muscle for fat lately.)
What do you think of all this?

    Again thanks a million!

    1. Thank you Momoiro! Was it Loepsie’s video that brought you here?

Based on your results, I’d say you’re a theatrical romantic. Here’s the link to my TR Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.ca/cozyrebekah/theatrical-romantic-kibbe-body-types-inspiration/

When it comes to face vs body, neither is really more prominent than the other, they both work in harmony to create an overall vibe for which body type you have. Merriam Style has a really great video on face vs body when it comes to typing, you might want to give it a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqC-gvYFhbg

Thank you for the tip and the explanation about the face vs. body. I was at first so confused to see that the body type seemed clear enough for a category somewhat close to romantic, but the rest aka face not at all. I will check the video you recommended!

  45. Could you please, please help me? I have taken the test so many times and I still can’t figure it out! I think it is because I have high cheekbones, large eyes, and have been told I look “exotic”, but am otherwise soft (slightly large bust, not too defined waist, straight hips; I am 5’3″ and slender and people compliment my long legs and say I’m tiny ?? so it’s confusing). Here are my answers:

    1e 2e 3a (or c?) 4d
    5c 6d 7c 8a 9d

      2. No problem! While it is a pattern that a lot of theatrical romantics have hourglass figures, not all of them do. For example, Mila Kunis has been typed by Kibbe as a theatrical romantic, and she has a fairly straight figure.

    bones of the body: 1 D; 2 E; 3 C; 4 E; 5 E; 6 E; 7 D; 8 D
    facial bones: 9 C; 10 A; 11 can’t decide between A and C
    flesh of the body: 12 C; 13 E; 14 E
    facial features:15 A; 16 C; 17 C

    15d
So mostly D and E with some A’s and I should be a Theatrical Romantic?
However, I am 5’9″ and from what I have gathered, most TRs are pretty short. I am just wondering if I am correct and if I am actually a TR? Thanks!

  48. I just got into Kibbe types, and your page is so helpful!

I’m kind of in a pickle, because I’m really tall (5′ 9″) for an Asian, and have a very hourglass body shape. I swim a lot, but am pretty skinny and lean, somewhat muscular. I’m definitely Yang, especially with my very exotic? face and height, but still have feminine features? (huge lips and narrow waist) I’ve figured that I’m either Dramatic or Natural, but I’m struggling to narrow it down. I’m leaning towards Soft Dramatic?

    Here’s my answers:
    1A 2A 3A 4A
    5D 6C 7E 8C 9B
    10D 11E 12A 13C 14E 15D

    Could you help me out?
