Announcements for 2019 and 2020

This is a very important post, with lots of announcements for things that will be happening to me and my blog in 2019 and 2020, so please read this post!

I’ll be covering the topic of my surgery, style consultations, as well as some changes that should be happening in the new year, so grab some tea, water, or your preferred beverage, and let’s get into it!

Jaw Surgery

For those of you who aren’t aware, I’m going to be getting jaw surgery soon.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an overbite. When I was younger it wasn’t so bad, but last year I got braces, and since then my overbite has gotten a lot worse.

Because of this I can no longer bite down using my front teeth, and almost all consonants are difficult for me to pronounce. I also get jaw pain, and have to crack my jaw multiple times a day to relieve tension.

Because of this, I decided at the beginning of this year to get jaw surgery to correct the position of my jaw.

The unfortunate thing about jaw surgery is that it has a long recovery time. People who’ve had jaw surgery usually have a recovery time of about 6 weeks.

The recovery time isn’t super long, but it’s difficult because you’re very limited on the food you can consume afterwards.

For the first little while, you can only eat liquid foods. After you’ve healed more you can begin to eat mushy foods, but you’re still very limited with what you can consume, since you can only open your mouth so much.

There’s also a lot of pain, since the jaw is essentially broken and moved to the correct position, then held in place with metal plates.

Since the recovery will be so long and draining, I’ve been working on (and will continue to work on) preparing blog posts in advance, so that there will still be posts going up while I’m recovering.

Unfortunately, I don’t know when exactly the surgery will be, and I won’t know until a short time before the surgery. Also, since jaw surgery is low priority, if someone comes in needing the OR because of an emergency, my surgery will have to be rescheduled.

My guess is that the surgery will be scheduled for some time during November or December, but we’ll see what happens.

Style Consultations

For awhile now, I’ve been letting people know that I’m considering doing style consultations. Well, now I have some concrete news on that topic!

If all goes according to plan, I will be doing offering five different consultation packages, which are as follows:

Basic Consult

I let you know what I think your body type and best colors are, based on photos of you.

Detailed Consult

I let you know what I think your body type and best colors are, based on photos of you. Then we consult on your desired dress style, and I create a personalized mood board and style document for you.

The mood board contains what is essentially a capsule closet of clothes, makeup, hair, and accessories for you, and the personalized style document gives you styling suggestions, walks you through the mood board, and includes some tips, tricks, and go to outfits.

Wedding Package

I let you know what I think your body type and best colors are, based on photos of you. Then we consult on the theme of your wedding and what look you’re going for. After that I give you a few wedding dress, makeup, and hairstyle ideas that will suit your desired look and your body type.

(As I gain experience with body typing and consulting, I may expand this package to include tux ideas and bridesmaid gowns.)

Special Event Styling

I let you know what I think your body type and best colors are, based on photos of you. Then we consult on the event you’re attending, and what kind of look you want to achieve. After that I give you a few outfit, makeup, and hairstyle ideas that will suit your desired look and your body type.

Glow Up Package

I let you know what I think your body type and best colors are, based on photos of yourself. Then we consult on what your desired look is, and I figure out some hair cut or style options for you, as well as some go to makeup looks that will suit you

I’ve already figured out some pricing ideas, but I don’t know what the demand will be like for my consultations, so I’m holding off on revealing the prices until closer to the date when I start offering consultations.

Now, even though I’m very excited and eager to start doing style consultations, I’m afraid I won’t be able to start them right away.

Instead, I’ll be offering them after I recover from jaw surgery, for a few reasons:

  1. I won’t know when I’ll be having the surgery until a short time before it happens. Because of this, I don’t want to have consultations scheduled, and then all of a sudden find out that I’m going to be having the surgery and have to cancel or postpone all of the consults.
  2. Since I don’t know when I’ll be having the surgery, all of my time is spent trying to prepare for it, so that you guys can have new posts to read while I’m recovering.

My posts take a lot of time to research and write, and I need to get at least 6 extra posts ready ahead of time, while also maintaining my current posting schedule of once a week.
  3. I want to make sure that I’m in a good state of health before I start offering consultations.

Sometimes I have bad pain days, where the tension in my jaw causes headaches that lessen my focus and energy. On those days I can’t work as well, so I want to make sure I’m in a better and more stable state of health.

Name Changes

This is an interesting part of my announcements, since I’m going to be doing two name changes:

  1. I’m going to start going by my full name: Rebekah Bechervaise. This site will still have the name of CozyRebekah, and my social media handles will also be CozyRebekah, but when I respond to comments my name should show up as Rebekah Bechervaise.

I’ve decided to do this because I have a very rare last name, and as far as I’m aware, no one else has the same full name as me. This will make it easier for people to find my blog when they look me up, and it will also be useful for people to know me by my full name if I ever decide to publish a book
    .
  2. The second name change I’ll be doing is for the body types. Merriam Amani, aka MerriamStyle, recently published a video on her channel about potential name changes for the body types, and I really love her ideas.

I have a few reasons for wanting to break away from the Kibbe names:

    A) The names are purely abstract, and don’t describe the body types at all. This makes it difficult to get into learning the body types, since the names don’t describe the body types.

The new names that Merriam is working on do describe what the body types look like, so I think that that will make the barrier to entry a lot less restricting.

    B) The names are very gendered. All of the names are feminine and flowery, which I think makes it difficult for men to get into the body types. Also, gamine is a word literally used to describe a certain type of girl, so the Kibbe names are overall very gendered.

I think it’d be better to go with a set of words that aren’t gendered, since the innate gendering of the body type names (as well as the masculine vs feminine of the body types) can be off putting to those who don’t associate with the gender that’s been assigned to their body type because of the naming conventions.

Non-gendered names will overall make it easier for everyone to get into body types, so it’ll make it an open and accessible experience.

    C) The Kibbe names are really long, and since there are 13 of them, it’s difficult to memorize them all. When I first started learning about the Kibbe body types it took me at least two weeks to memorize what each name was for each body type.

Shorter names that are descriptive of what the body type looks like will help people learn about the body types more easily than long names that serve as just symbols.

Rebranding for 2020

The next announcement that I have, is that I’m going to work on a bit of a visual rebranding for 2020. I’m really interested in body typing for men, so once I learn about body types of men, I want to have a more androgynous look for my blog.

This way I can attract a diverse audience, and it’ll also match my own aesthetic style more!

As I get more into the design, you’ll learn more about some of the changes. I may also post some sneak peaks on my social media.

New Body Types Tests

I’ll also be working on creating new versions of the body types test for 2020.

As I’ve helped people figure out their body types in the comments, I’ve slowly picked up on some of the short comings of the original test, so I’ve thought of some improvements.

The new tests will have slightly different questions, more detailed answer descriptions, and better illustrations!

Why are there going to be multiple tests? I want to have two versions of the test, one for female bodies and another for male bodies.

Body Types for Men

As I improve on my blog and learn more about the body types, I want to get into body types for men. So far I haven’t really seen people talk about body types for men, and when it comes to men’s fashion in general, there seems to be a lack of information.

I know many men want to look their best, so I think that providing those resources will help men feel more comfortable discussing fashion, style, and embracing their natural bodies!

That’s all for now, thanks for reading this post until the end. A lot of things are going to be happening this fall and winter, and I’m very excited (and also a little nervous)!

I hope that you’ll stick around with me through these changes, and hopefully we can grow together.

  1. I think it’s great you’re going to talk more about body types for men! Even though I’m not a man, I was wondering about that because it sounds like a great opportunity to widen your audience! Good luck on your surgery and other upcoming events!
