Body Type Test (2020 Version)

Almost a year ago I made and published a post on how to figure out your Kibbe body type, and after receiving hundreds of comments on it with people asking for help on how to figure their body type, I’ve worked on improving the body type test.

This test works no matter what your gender or biological sex is. The questions about waist and hip shape have been modified a bit, and the bust question can be skipped.

WARNING: If you have gender dysphoria, body dysmorphia, or have struggled with eating disorders and you’re worried this test may be triggering for you, please don’t take it. Your boundaries and mental health are important, so don’t push yourself past your limits.

Instructions:

To start, make sure that you can properly analyze your body and bone structure when doing this test. This means you will either need a photograph of yourself or a mirror. Make sure that you’re wearing tight clothing or undergarments/swimsuit, so that you can see your underlying bone structure.

As a warning, glasses can distort the look of your face (especially cheekbones), so you may need to remove them when analyzing your face. High heels can distort the look of your bone structure.

If using a photograph of yourself, make sure the camera is at chest level, perpendicular to the ground, and placed far enough back for your entire body to be in frame. This will give the proper perspective of your body.

Make sure the camera is at chest height and a few feet away, so that you get an accurate picture of your proportions.

When recording your answers, make sure to keep things separated into the sections that are outlined in this test. It’ll make it easier for me to help you if you’re struggling with interpreting the results.

Remember to choose the answer that best describes your body.

I decided to omit the illustrations and pictures with this version of the test, as I’m worried that the illustrations I made could throw people off, since there are usually so many different examples for each answer.

If you’re looking for a test with pictures, try taking Aly Art’s version of the test on YouTube.

Bone Structure of the Body

Q1. How tall do you look?

(This isn’t about how tall you actually are. This is about how tall you look like you are, based on how large or small your head is in comparison to the rest of your body. If you’re having difficulty with this question, try taking a full-body picture of yourself and ask some friends if you look tall, moderate, or short in it.)

A) Quite tall
B) Slightly tall
C) Average height
D) Slightly short
E) Quite short or petite

Q2. What is the shape of your shoulders?

(Don’t compare your shoulders to your head, compare them to the rest of your body.)

A) Sharp and angular
B) Beveled and broad
C) Neither very sharp nor very rounded
D) Slender and rounded
E) Wide and rounded

Q3. How long do your arms look?

(This is about the bone structure of your arms, so ignore the shape of the flesh on your upper arms.)

A) Long and slender
B) Long and wide
C) Neither long nor short, evenly proportioned
D) Short and slender
E) Short and wide

Q4. How long do your legs look?

(This is about the bone structure of your legs, so ignore the shape of the flesh on your thighs.)

A) Long and slender
B) Long and wide
C) Neither long nor short, evenly proportioned
D) Short and slender
E) Short and wide

Q5. What best describes the shape of your hands?

A) Long and narrow
B) Long and broad
C) Not noticeably long or short, evenly proportioned
D) Short and narrow
E) Short and wide

Q6. What best describes the shape of your feet?

A) Long and narrow
B) Long and wide
C) Not noticeably long or short, evenly proportioned
D) Small and narrow
E) Small and wide

Q7. What best describes the shape of your torso*?

(This question involves the flesh of the waist, but more importantly it involves the shape of the rib cage, which is why I decided to include it in the bone structure section.)

A) Long and narrow, slightly tapered
B) Long and wide (could be straight or thick depending on weight)
C) Balanced, neither noticeably long nor noticeably short (slightly defined if female)
D) Short and narrow (sharply defined if female)
E) Short and slightly wide (softly defined if female)

Q8. What best describes the shape of your hips*?

(This question involves the flesh of the hips, but more importantly it involves the shape of the hipbones, which is why I decided to include it in the bone structure section.)

A) Long, narrow, and slightly tapered
B) Long and wide (tapering into a V shape if male, or straight if female)
C) Balanced, evenly proportioned with the rest of your body
D) Short and soft (but slightly narrow)
E) Short, soft, and wide

Facial Bones

Q9. What best describes the shape of your jawline?

(Keep in mind the points at the corners of your jawline as well as the shape of your chin.)

A) Sharp and angular
B) Blunt and wide
C) Neither very sharp nor very rounded
D) Rounded and slender
E) Rounded and softly wide

Q10. What best describes the shape of your nose?

(It’s important to look at your nose in both profile and front view, as sometimes aquiline noses can appear slightly rounded at the tip when viewed from the front, even though they’re sharp in profile.)

A) Long and sharp
B) Wide and beveled
C) Neither sharp nor rounded, not very small or wide
D) Narrow and small
E) Rounded, perhaps softly wide

Q11. What best describes the shape of your cheekbones?

(Ignore what the shape of your cheeks are, and look at only the actual bone structure. The shape of the cheeks will be addressed later. If you’re having difficulty seeing the shape, you may need to feel the shape with your fingers.)

A) Prominent and sharp
B) Wide and beveled
C) Neither very sharp or very rounded
D) Narrow and rounded
E) Rounded and wide

Flesh of the Body

Q12. How would you describe your bust, in proportion to the rest of your body?

(This question can be skipped.)

A) Flat and taut
B) Widely spaced, not very prominent
C) Balanced, not noticeably small or large
D) Fairly large and soft
E) Quite prominent

Q13. How would you describe the flesh on your upper arms?

(If you carry a lot of weight on your arms, you may think the only answers that describe your arms are B or E, but look at the shape of the flesh – is it rounded or straight? And remember to consider your flesh in proportion to the rest of your body.)

A) Taut and straight
B) Wide and straight
C) Balanced, not very taut nor very soft
D) Soft and slender
E) Soft and wide

Q14. How would you describe the flesh on your thighs?

(If you carry a lot of weight on your thighs, you may think the only answers that describe your thighs are B or E, but look at the shape of the flesh – is it rounded or straight? And remember to consider your flesh in proportion to the rest of your body.)

A) Taut and straight
B) Wide and straight
C) Balanced, not very taut or very soft
D) Soft and slender
E) Soft and wide

Facial Features

Q15. What best describes the shape of your eyes?

A) Straight, and narrow or close-set
B) Straight, and long or wide-set
C) Not very rounded or straight, not noticeable large or small
D) Slightly rounded or upturned
E) Large and rounded

Q16. What best describes the shape of your lips?

A) Thin and angular
B) Thin and straight
C) Not very full or thin, not very rounded or angular
D Full and slightly angular
E) Full and rounded

Q17. What best describes the flesh on your cheeks?

(Ignore your cheekbones and focus just on the flesh of your face. Smiling can help you determine if your cheeks tend towards angularity or softness.)

A) Taut and flat
B) Wide and muscular
C) Not very soft or tight
D) Soft but slender
E) Soft and wide, creates a rounded shape

Now that you have all of your answers written down, it’s time to move on to the results.

  1. Hey, I really enjoy your work and am pretty sure I am somewhere in the romantic category. I’m not exactly sure, because I have 3 answers A to B and therefor have a little yan undercurrence. The problem that pooped up is that I love Dr. Martens (chunky boots, especially plateau styles) but for a Romantic it just doesn’t look right. I always felt like there was something wrong with me in these kind of shoes but I didn’t care. Until now because now, I want to dress my best and include every piece of clothing to make it work for my body. How can I style these shoes without looking like complete trash?;D Any suggestions would be nice!

    1. Sounds like you’re a theatrical romantic, based on your slight yang undercurrent. I love Dr. Martens too and have been looking at different ways to style them for awhile (I’m a soft gamine so they’re quite large for my body type). I think the best way for the softer body types (r, tr, sg) to style them is with something super light and feminine, like a floral dress.

They also come in lots of different colors now, so getting a pair with a floral pattern or that is low contrast with the colors that you normally wear (for example getting a pastel shade if you wear lots of light colors, or going with black if you wear lots of dark colors).

      Here’s a great photo example: https://www.pinterest.ca/pin/536139530643565094/

    2. Hello, I was curious about something. I know that your kibbe body type doesn’t change if you put on or lose weight but what about weightlifting and exercise? That way you can completely change your figure (ex. a more defined waist).Does this affect your kibbe body type?

      1. For awhile I had wondered about this myself, but then I noticed that often the overall shape that muscle takes as it develops seem to be different for the different body types. I feel like male celebrities are a good place to see this, as often the body expectations for male celebrities place an expectation of being muscular and toned, but you can see that the muscles on men with softer body types tend to be softly defined and rounder in shape than men with more structured body types, who tend to have either a more wide, look or very taut muscle definition.

Another thing that I’ve noticed is that even when women work out a lot, their waistline still tends to fall into a certain shape answer. Some women have an answer A or B waist even if they have visible abs, and I’ve seen women who I’d say have D or E answer waists even if they have visible abs.

I hope that helps answer your question!

    Based on my responses…
    Bone: D3, E3, B1, C1
    Face: C2, A1
    Body: B1, D1, C1
    Facial Features: E1, C1, B1
    (I think!?)

I honestly thought I might be some kind of Gamine or Dramatic, but I’m not sure! I’m petite (5’1″) with an athletic hourglass figure (curvy with a small waist, but not chubby at all), big aquiline nose, big eyes, moderate mouth, moderate chin, moderate/yang cheeks. Really hard to say.

      1. Ooh, thank you! I just had to reply to thank you specially, for I have had great difficulty in correlating myself with the FG style, even though so much of it was natural to me to wear! But your Pinterest board (and Audrey Hepburn in particular!) really helped me see the true picture, and I fit in perfectly now! It has been so frustrating, but I had high hopes when I found your blog, for it was the first site that seemed to deal with the subject so properly! Thanks and best wishes.

  13. Hey,

I took the test and for my flesh and face, I have only C or D answers, so I thought, I might be a soft classic. However, my bone structure has weird results: 2 C, 2 B, 2 D and 1 E (my torso is quite short, my legs and arms are quite long, my feet and hands are rather small, with my feet being more narrow and my hands being rather wide). Now I was wondering, am I still a soft classic? I would really love to hear your opinion!
Thank you for your time and for the test, it is the most understandable in this topic I could find.

      1. I think I’m most probably a dramatic classic but what throws me is im a classic pear shape. I’m also quite tall (5’11) with a tall vertical line but I’ve heard classics aren’t usually super tall. I’m still veering towards soft dramatic because of the height but I definitely do not have the soft face or the chest. I am 100% hour glass in how kibbe describes though. I also don’t think I’m a dramatic and I’m not flamboyant natural. Im still confused but are happy to be placed in the classic family as that style sits better with me.
Thanks for your blog. This sure is a rabbit hole.

      2. Thank you, Fleur! It truly is a rabbit hole, but I’m firmly on the side of ‘your height doesn’t dictate your body type’ when it comes to the Kibbe body types. When I was struggling to find my type, one of the things that helped me most was trying out all sorts of lines, and experimenting with different shapes and silhouettes. Despite knowing my body type now, I still sometimes do these experiments, to learn more about it!

  19. Thank you so much for making this updated version of the quiz!! I’ve been trying to figure out my type for months- it’s been frustrating. I want to create a cohesive look. Someone told me I was a flamboyant natural. I instinctively felt that was wrong, but none of the other types seemed to fit. I tried dressing in those lines for a while and I looked like I was drowning in fabric. I’m 5’2 and a bit too delicate for FN. Anyway, your quiz helped me finally see that I’m a Dramatic Classic. Aaahh, everything makes sense now.
Also, your pinterest boards are beautiful. Tasteful clothing choices for each type.💕

    Bone structure – Face

    Body Flesh

I thought I was a dramatic classic. I am pretty skinny with long and slender limbs, I have a smaller bust, a pretty slinny waist and a skinny upper body in general with quite broad sharp shoulders. My hips are wide and fleshy, I have a butt and I mainly gain weight around the hips. My legs are quite skinny as well. My flesh is very soft but skinny ( my arms are defined and always very skinny but not muscular. My hands and feet are large and wide but skinny (?).

Now I read up about the dramatic classic body type and it said everywhere that DCs aren’t very tall and I’m 5‘10“.

I guess I’m confused because I don’t think I’ve ever seen somebody with a body type like mine (broad shoulders and hips, narrow chest, waist definition, soft flesh mainly on hips but skinny, long, slender)

I hope you can help (and sorry to put you through this novel I’ve just written)!

I’m firmly on the side of it not restricting which body types you can be, so I recommend taking a look at my DC Pinterest board and seeing if you like the lines: https://www.pinterest.ca/cozyrebekah/dramatic-classic-kibbe-body-types-inspiration/

However based on your description of yourself and your results, you may also be a soft dramatic, so I suggest also taking a look at my SD Pinterest board: https://www.pinterest.ca/cozyrebekah/soft-dramatic-kibbe-body-types-inspiration/

  30. Hi there,
Your blog is amazing and has been super educational. I’ve taken the quiz but I’m still super confused about what my body type would be. Looking at my results I think I might be a soft natural or soft classic, but it’s hard to tell. I’m not that tall (5’4″) and have a rectangular-shaped body. I used to be pretty athletic but my body has gotten pretty soft over the years. Most of the weight I’ve gained has been in my mid-section and chest. I would appreciate any help, thanks!

The reason I'm confused is that – I have very round features on my head and face (with a sharp chin). My shoulders are wide, arms and calves are slender yet my thighs are more round/wide @.@ Weight gain is mostly around my mid section and thighs. I'm around 5"6 / 167 cm. In terms of how tall I look – this is something I find a bit difficult to judge bcuz being East Asian – we tend to have slightly larger heads, so compared to other East Asians I look moderate but compared those from other ethnic background, I may look slightly shorter.

It would be great if you can help me out a bit here!! Thank you & have a good day!

  35. Hey Rebekah,
I have done the test in other sites but I’m still a bit confused about my type. I always get different results.
Based on this test I must be a natural but I’m actually pretty short (5”1).
Before I got Soft Classic or even Gamine, but at this point I feel lost. ):
Do you think you can help me out? Thank you ♥

  44. Hi! I’ve been taking a lot of different Kibbe tests, I typically get an even split of B’s and C’s maybe one having more than the other (depends on what features the test leant groups together) My results are as followed for your new 2020 version
    Bone Structure: B C B B C C C C
    Facia bones: B B C
    Flesh of the body: C B B
    Facial Features: C C B

I think I struggle because my body seems to work better with DC or C attire (simple with a more waist definition) but my head doesn’t work as well with the Sleek very symmetrical and neat hairstyles at all. I feel I’m either a soft natural or dramatic classic but unsure which

  46. Thank you for making this! I have always thought that I was a classic but I am torn between being soft classic, dramatic classic, and soft natural because I got mostly Cs but ended up with 2 b’s. Number 10 is b. and number 12 is B.
