So the title of this post may seem a bit controversial, because after all, haven’t we been told for ages that makeup makes our skin worse? Well, I find that when I wear makeup regularly, my skin actually gets clearer, and it took me awhile to figure out why. And now that I have, I’ve begun wearing makeup every day.
The first thing you need to know about me is that I’m forgetful. The second thing you need to know is that I have a lot of difficulties perceiving the passage of time. As you can imagine, that makes daily routines difficult to introduce to my life, and skincare has been no exception to that.
But there’s one rule that I learned about before I ever started wearing makeup: “Never go to sleep with makeup on!”
To make a long story short, wearing makeup almost every day has gotten me to do my skincare almost every day!
If I’m wearing makeup then I’ll wash my face at night because I know I’m not supposed to wear makeup to sleep. And then after I’ve washed my face I know I might as well use my other skincare products (toner, serum, and moisturizer) because hey, might as well since I’ve just washed my face!
Admittedly, I don’t wear a lot of makeup. Most days I just define the shape of my eyebrows, put on a little bit of lipstick, and maybe a touch of eyeshadow.
But even on the occasions when I do put on heavier makeup, like foundation or concealer, my skin doesn’t break out afterwards. I mix foundation or concealer with a bit of serum and moisturizer before applying it. My skin dries out really really easily, so if I don’t mix it with something then it’ll just crack within like 5 minutes of being applied, no matter how light of an application I do.
So if you’re like me, and you have difficulty doing skincare as a daily routine, try wearing a bit of makeup every day! It might help you get into the routine.
